Central Park ~ Cristina Ergunay

description

“Penguins toddle, Flap and waddle.”
“Central Park Zoo is home to different kinds of waddling, toddling penguins, including gentoo, chinstrap, king, and macaroni.”

This delightful picture book takes us on a tour of Central Park in New York City.

Each two-page spread as a short rhyming couplet followed by a sentence or two explaining the landmark or attraction in the park.

The book takes us through the seasons – highlighting different things you can do and see based on the weather.

I never knew there were so many things in Central Park!

We see illustrations of Wallman Rink, the iconic skating location, for winter and of Sheep Meadow, a beautiful place to enjoy the shady trees and who used to have actual sheep grazing on the grasses.

There’s the Great Lawn, a concert location, and we learn about the Atlantic Flyway, a bird highway which has a stop in the Ramble in Central Park.

I think my favorite part about this book is the dual narrative. I really appreciate the simplicity of the rhymes – for when you want bedtime to come as quick as possible – but also the option to read out more information and learn a thing or two about all these locations.

The illustrations were just so vibrant and beautiful – they really sealed the deal for this book for me!
