I love learning about caves…. from a distance! Seriously though, this book was so flipping cool to read. The animals were wacky and the cave facts were crazy – what more could a girl ask for?
This book begins by defining what makes a cave, a cave:
“Most people agree that if a human can fit inside the hole in the earth, it counts as a cave.”
And from there we are off running! Learning about all sorts of cool cave formations and what sorts of animals live in those habitats – from the permanent residents, to the part-timers, to the visitors.
And let me tell you, this book is CHOCK full of super cool facts – like how troglobites (full-time cave residents) are often blind because there’s no need for sight in the caves but troglophiles (part-timers) leave the cave for foraging reasons.
The illustrations were top-notch and various speech bubbles from the animals really brought humor to this piece!
