“Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both…”
This is such a beautifully illustrated edition of one of the most well-known poems in the world.
I’m reading the Familius Publishing edition and I’m truly blown away by the wonderful illustrations made to accompany Robert Frost’s iconic poem.
“In leaves no step had trodden back Oh, I kept the first for another day!”
Throughout the poem, there is a young man walking through the woods and as he travels, we see snippets of his life.
There’s his boyhood days, his studies in school, when he married his wife, and all sorts of little choices that eventually lead to his life today.
“Two roads diverged in a wood and I – I took the one less traveled by,”
And at the end, we see all of the wonderful results from his life choices.
While I’ve always liked Robert Frost’s poem, I have not really thought on the words outside of an English class. When I read this edition, I immediately turned to the first page and began again.
For context: this is the third book I’ve read from Familius that takes on a classic and provides illustrations to breath life into the poem.
Each one has been amazing to read. When I normally read a poem, my eyes skitter scatter across the words and I move on to the next thing.
But when it’s in a picture book format, I find myself reading slower and more deliberately. I take in more from the words and understand the meaning in ways I have not considered before.
I really enjoyed the artist’s style in this one – the bright yellow autumnal leaves and the depth of character conveyed by just a few short illustrations – stunning.
Overall, this is a beautiful take on a classic. Highly recommended!
