Strangers on the High Seas – Carole P. Roman

description

★★★★ ½

“I’m glad little Cayla is on board. The more the merrier, I always say.”

Captain No Beard is about to get another new crew member – Cayla.

Captain No Beard, his cousin Hallie and their assorted crew members have a well-oiled ship…and when Cayla joined… it is different.

And he isn’t sure if he likes this type of different.

But then...the dreaded Scurvy Dog is hot on the Flying Dragon (Captain No Beard’s ship) and the Captain will have to put aside his differences in order to keep everyone safe.

All in all, this is a sweet book about what life is like getting used to a new sibling – with a healthy dose of pirate adventures on the side.

I feel like Captain No Beard’s plight is so relateable for younger kids – having a sibling is great concept but when they are young…it’s easy to get frustrated when they can’t do as much as you can.

It was such a satisfying story arc to watch Captain No Beard learning how to be a big brother.

As always – I adore the illustrations by Bonnie Lemaire. She always does so well with this book series!

So excited for the next one!

With thanks to the author for a free copy in exchange for an honest review
