★★★★ ½
With strong leadership, Mali was able to take control if trade routes, making the economy and people rich.
The Ancient Mali once was a small part of Ghana until they rebelled and were able to form their own country.
The world of Ancient Mali was far different from what many are familiar with today.
The houses were round-shaped with grass domed roofs…They built mosques from rice husks, earth, and water.
And it’s not just what the houses looked like – there was a huge difference in what things were worth!
You weren’t sure which was more valuable, the salt or gold.
Could you imagine that? Crazy!
And even the clothes were wildly different –
Mali was known for its unique tie-dye and mud cloths
I didn’t know much about this empire before I picked up this book and it was so much fun to learn!
I loved, loved, loved the illustrations! They were absolutely gorgeous and absolutely blew this book out of the water!
